Hong Kong SAR Government Awards Ms. Cheng Cheung Ling the Gold Bauhinia Star

On July 1, 2026, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Hong Kong SAR Government announced the 2026 Honours List, the 29th such list since Hong Kong's return to China. Among the recipients, Ms. Cheng Cheung Ling, one of the founders of Chia Tai Pharmaceutical, founding president of the Hong Kong Chinese Association, President of Chia Tai Pharmaceutical Group, and Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Sino Biopharm, was awarded the "Gold Bauhinia Star".

 

 

Citation for the Award

 

Ms. Cheng has for many years been dedicated to promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry, strengthening R&D and transformative innovation, and expanding and facilitating industrial cooperation between the international community, the Mainland, and Hong Kong. She has been extensively involved in philanthropy, deeply engaged in charitable work such as poverty alleviation and education, making immense contributions. Ms. Cheng took the lead in establishing the Hong Kong Chinese Association and serves as its founding president, dedicating herself to uniting all sectors of society and promoting Hong Kong's integration into the overall national development. Ms. Cheng actively supports the government's administration and offers advice on various development areas. She has served the community with utmost dedication and outstanding performance. She is now awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star. 

 

Ms. Cheng Cheung Ling is currently the President of Chia Tai Pharmaceutical Group, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Sino Biopharm Limited, and also serves as the founding president of the Hong Kong Chinese Association and the founding president of the Hong Kong "Belt and Road" General Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Cheng has long been deeply involved in the pharmaceutical industry, with outstanding achievements in corporate management, industrial innovation, and international cooperation. At the same time, she is actively involved in Hong Kong's social and public affairs, is concerned about people's livelihood, and serves the community with sincerity, contributing significantly to promoting exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong and the Mainland and fostering the harmonious development of Hong Kong society. 

 

On July 1, 2019, Cheng Cheung Ling was appointed as a Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong SAR Government. On July 1, 2021, Ms. Cheng was again awarded the "Silver Bauhinia Star" for her outstanding contributions to promoting the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, in recognition of her long-term dedicated service to the community, especially her significant contributions to promoting community affairs, youth development, and volunteer services. Receiving the higher-level "Gold Bauhinia Star" this time represents a high affirmation and broad recognition from all sectors of society for Ms. Cheng's continuous and profound contributions. 

 

Ms. Cheng Cheung Ling stated: "I sincerely thank the SAR Government for its affirmation and trust.The Gold Bauhinia Star is not only a personal honor but also an encouragement to every colleague who has worked diligently over the years for the cause of loving the country and loving Hong Kong. Hong Kong's destiny has always been closely linked with the motherland, and the country has always been the greatest support for Hong Kong's development. I will continue to practice my original intention of loving the country, loving Hong Kong, and serving the community. I will do my utmost to unite and rally patriotic forces that love the country and Hong Kong, help Hong Kong leverage its unique advantages as a "super-connector" and "super value-adder", and work hand in hand with all sectors of society to jointly write a more brilliant chapter for the Pearl of the Orient."

 

About the "Gold Bauhinia Star"

 

The Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) is an honor awarded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to individuals who have made significant contributions to society or have received high praise for their active participation in public and voluntary services. It was established in 1998. The list of recipients is published in the Government Gazette on July 1 each year, and the presentation ceremony is held in the second half of the year at Government House, presided over by the Chief Executive.
